On Friday night, kids will have the opportunity to see Garfield, everyone’s favorite chubby cat, sing and dance on stage in a new musical by creator Jim Davis and Michael J. Bobbitt, Adventure Theatre’s producing artistic director. The musical’s opening night also features a PJ party and a reception with milk and cookies. The show will be running until Aug. 23, and tickets cost $19.50 each.

Black Masala, the winner of the Washington Area Music Awards’ “Best New Artist” award, will be taking the stage Friday night. The eight-person band is energetic and eclectic, featuring brass, tuba, accordion, electric guitar, drums and vocals. Tickets are $10-$12.
AFI DOCS—Friday-Sunday—AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center, 8633 Colesville Road, Silver Spring
This international film festival aspires to use the inspiration of documentaries to make a difference by connecting filmmakers to policymakers. Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.—8 p.m. Saturday—The Music Center at Strathmore, North Bethesda
In 2011, Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. triumphed over adversity when he became the winner of the sixth season of America’s Got Talent. This Saturday, Murphy will be coming to The Music Center at Strathmore to perform a program of Frank Sinatra hits, Motown classics and songs by Nat King Cole and Dean Martin. He will be joined by Glenn Leonard, the former lead singer of the Temptations. Tickets are $15-$40.
Father’s Day with Leonard, Coleman and Blunt—7:30 p.m. Sunday—Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club, 7719 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda
The former lead singers of The Temptations, The Platters, and The Drifters—Glenn Leonard, Joe Coleman and Joe Blunt—will be combining their vocal talents to sing a blend of classic hits. Tickets are $22.50-$27.50.
Brubeck Brothers—7 p.m. Sunday—AMP by Strathmore, North Bethesda
Enjoy an evening of jazz music with The Brubeck Brothers Quartet. Drummer Dan Brubeck and composer-bassist trombonist Chris Brubeck are descendants of the first family of jazz and they formed a quartet with guitarist Mike DeMicco and pianist Chuck Lamb. Tickets to the show are $35-$45.
