The big hole left by Oro Pomodoro’s sudden closing last summer at Rockville Town Square will soon be filled by the southern pizza chain Mellow Mushroom.

Federal Realty, the development company that owns Rockville Town Square, announced Monday the pizza restaurant will open in the 5,800-square-foot space that borders the grassy square next to Buffalo Wild Wings.

There’s no set opening date yet, but the restaurant is planning to open sometime later this year.

Mellow Mushroom—which has a location in Adams Morgan in Washington, D.C.—has more than 150 franchise locations throughout the U.S. and is headquartered in Atlanta. This will be the first Maryland location.

The franchise is known for its hoagies and hearty pizzas like the red-skin potato pie, which is topped with bacon, sliced red potatoes, caramelized onions, and cheddar and mozzarella cheese that’s drizzled with sour cream and ranch dressing. The restaurant also serves up a variety of craft beers and cocktails.

The interior of the restaurants feature Bohemian accents in a nod to the company’s counter-culture ethos that has existed since it was founded in 1974.

The restaurant joins a growing list of new eateries at Rockville Town Square, including the yet-to-open Finnegan’s Wake Irish Pub, the Korean fusion restaurant Miso Café and the Russian restaurant Samovar. Other restaurants that opened this year at the development include Peter Chang’s Chinese restaurant and the French Bistro Ev & Maddy’s.
