Bethesda-based Greenhill Cos. has bought another Cordell Avenue property, this time for $2.8 million.

The developer closed on the building that houses Flanagan’s Harp & Fiddle at 4844 Cordell Ave. late last month. Founder Leonard Greenberg said the Irish bar will remain.

Greenhill is rebuilding the 4848 Cordell Ave. property next door to accommodate a yet-to-be-determined restaurant tenant. It used to be home to a temporary homeless shelter before Montgomery County consolidated the facility with another shelter in North Bethesda.

Last year, Greenhill bought the property at 4866 Cordell Ave. that’s home to Brickside Food & Drink and Zengo Cycle.

Earlier this year, Greenberg offered Montgomery County $5 million in cash for two public parking lots—one on Cordell Avenue in the same block as the recently purchased properties.

The amassing of adjacent and nearby properties could one day open the door for a major redevelopment project, though Greenberg said he has no plans for one yet.

The former homeless shelter property is nearing completion and an artist hired by Greenhill is painting a cityscape mural on the exterior wall facing one of the county’s metered parking lots.
