Flash Flood Watch in Effect Monday Night – The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Montgomery County and much of the region that begins at noon Monday. The weather service warns showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and continue overnight. The system has the potential to bring “torrential downpours which may lead to flash flooding.”
Ideal Temperatures Expected Rest of Week – A beautiful week is expected following the rain Monday, according to the weather service. Tuesday is expected to be cloudy with a high of 72 and a nighttime low of 59 degrees. There’s a chance of showers Wednesday with a high near 73 and a low of 62. Thursday should be mostly cloudy with a high near 75 and on Friday the temperature is expected to rise to 81 degrees on a partly sunny day with a low around 66 degrees.
County Council on Recess – The Montgomery County Council will not meet this week as it finishes up the second week of its two-week, post-budget approval recess. The council is scheduled to return next week and on June 9 plans to hold a number of public hearings on local legislation related to the minimum wage, affordable housing, and reorganizing the county’s economic development department.
Montgomery and Howard Counties to Announce New Plan to Handle Police Killings – The state’s attorneys for Montgomery and Howard counties plan to announce a “mutual aid pact” Monday morning to investigate police killings. The initiative is described as the first of its kind in Maryland and would enable Howard County prosecutors to handle police shooting cases in Montgomery County and vice versa. The announcement is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at the Montgomery County Judicial Center on Maryland Avenue in Rockville.
Planning Board to Review Bethesda Senior Housing Proposal – The Montgomery County Planning Board Thursday is scheduled to review a 72-bed senior housing center proposal. The center, which would house residents suffering from Alzheimer’s or other forms of memory loss, is planned for 8301 River Road. The planning board is scheduled to meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at 8787 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring to review the proposal.
