Update 1:15 p.m. – A firefighter suffered non-life threatening injuries while battling a fire at a residential building in Rockville that broke out around 10 a.m. Friday.
Fire department spokesman Pete Piringer reported that arriving firefighters saw smoke coming from a townhouse in the 370 block of Congressional Lane. The fire extended to four adjoining units before firefighters extinguished the blaze around 11:15 a.m., according to Piringer.
Piringer said on his Twitter account two children suffered minor smoke exposure injuries and were evaluated by paramedics. Four families were displaced by the fire, according to Piringer. The spokesman reported the firefighter suffered an orthopedic injury.
A flammable spray that came into contact with a spark caused the fire, according to Piringer. Firefighters estimated the fire caused more than $150,000 in damage.
The residential building is located south of Woodmont Country Club and about 1,000 feet west of Rockville Pike.
