New Irish Pub Coming to Rockville Town Square

Finnegan’s Wake, an Irish pub, is planning to open in Rockville Town Square. A spokeswoman for the Federal Realty-owned commercial center confirmed the restaurant has leased a space at the center. The pub is also listed on the Rockville Town Square website as “coming soon.”

The spokeswoman did not provide additional details about the restaurant or when it would open. Local blogger Robert Dyer reported it would open at 100-F Gibbs St., the former location of Carbon Peruvian Chicken & Grill.

The restaurant announcement follows news about a string of new restaurants opening or planning to open at the commercial center. Over the past four months the French bistro Ev & Maddy’s and Peter Chang’s new Chinese restaurant have opened, while a Russian restaurant, Samovar, and a Korean fusion restaurant, Miso Café, plan to open this summer and fall.

Steamers Liquor License Hearing Rescheduled

Face of the Week

The hearing on a possible liquor license violation for Steamers Seafood House in Bethesda has been rescheduled. Steamers was cited by Montgomery County police April 22 for serving drinks at 4 a.m., more than an hour later than permitted by county law. The owner of Steamers had been scheduled to appear before the county’s Board of License Commissioners at 2 p.m. May 21 to determine what, if any, penalties should be applied to restaurant for the alleged infraction.

Shortly before the hearing Steamers informed the county’s Department of Liquor Control that it had hired a lawyer and asked that the hearing be rescheduled, which the DLC agreed to do, according to a DLC employee. The hearing is now scheduled for 1:30 p.m. July 2 on the second floor of the Rockville Library.

Since 2004, the restaurant has been cited six times by the county’s liquor board for serving alcohol after hours, with the most recent incident resulting in the board suspending the restaurant’s liquor license for two weeks from Oct. 1-15, 2014.

In an interview with Bethesda Beat earlier this month, Steamers owner William LeStrange III said he’s planning to sell the Auburn Avenue restaurant in Woodmont Triangle.

MET Bethesda Hosting Soft Shell Crab Festival

Looking to satiate that need for a soft shell crab fix while the crustaceans are still in season? MET Bethesda may be a good choice. The restaurant across from ArcLight Cinemas at Westfield Montgomery mall is holding its “Soft Shell Crab Festival” until June 11. The restaurant is featuring a different method for preparing soft shell crabs each day. Varieties include tempura fried crab, a chili crab pizza and corn-meal crusted crab. Prices range from $11 to $18 for appetizers and sandwiches to $22 to $28 for entrées.

MET Bethesda is part of the MET restaurant group, which operates four restaurants in Massachusetts. The restaurant group has been hosting the crab festival for the past 10 years at its other restaurants. MET Bethesda opened in November inside the Bethesda mall’s new dining terrace.
