Stormy, hot week expected – Temperatures are expected to reach into the mid-80s each day this week, with scattered thunderstorms likely at times, according to the National Weather Service. There’s a 30 percent chance of showers Tuesday night and a nighttime low of 67 degrees is expected. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are predicted Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and both days are expected to reach 86 degrees, according to the weather service. Friday is expected to be mostly sunny with a low chance of showers and a high temperature in the upper-80s.
O’Malley likely to announce presidential bid – Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley is expected to announce Saturday he’s running for president. O’Malley, a Democrat, is expected to officially launch his campaign at 10 a.m. at Federal Hill Park in Baltimore. O’Malley is widely considered a long-shot candidate and has been trailing in polls behind Hillary Clinton, the leading Democratic candidate. However, he has spent considerable time touring early primary states like New Hampshire, Iowa and South Carolina before and after leaving the governor’s office in January.
Board of Education to meet this afternoon – The Montgomery County Board of Education is scheduled to meet from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Items on the agenda include minor changes to the school calendar to accommodate the revised primary election schedule and a proposal to construct a new turf field at Somerset Elementary School in Chevy Chase. The meeting will be held at the Carver Educational Services Center, 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville.
Rockville murder suspect expected to return to Montgomery County – The man police believe killed a Rockville husband and wife inside their home earlier this month is expected to be transported from Alaska back to the county this week. Police say 31-year-old Scott Tomaszewski stabbed his neighbors Richard and Julianne Vilardo on Mother’s Day weekend and then traveled to Alaska for a planned cruise with his parents. He was later arrested on the cruise ship and then confessed to the killings during an interview with detectives, according to police.
Police to hold Autism Night Out Friday – Montgomery County police will host an Autism Night Out Safety Fair in Rockville Friday as a way for officers and community members to learn more about autism. The event will include activities for children and light refreshments. Each attendee will receive an autism safety kit. The event is being coordinated with the National Capital Area Chapter of Autism Speaks. The safety fair takes place from 6 to 9 p.m.
