Chef Mike Isabella’s new Greek restaurant at Bethesda Row will be opening a little bit later than first expected.
When the restaurant was announced in January, Isabella planned to open the 160-seat establishment sometime in the summer, but a spokeswoman for the restaurant said Wednesday the opening is now projected for the fall.
The spokeswoman said in an email there’s no particular reason for the delay, just that timelines for construction and opening are typically a “moving target.”
Interior renovation work at the restaurant, which will be called Kapnos Kouzina, has begun at the corner location at Woodmont Avenue and Hampden Lane. The space is the former location of Vapiano.
Earlier this year Isabella said in an interview with Bethesda Beat that the restaurant will offer Greek home-style cuisine, including braised meats, slow roasts and traditional sauces. The restaurant’s design will have a market feel, according to the chef. Renderings of the space include a chef’s counter, an open kitchen and large shelves that bisect the main dining room.
