If you’ve ever wanted to operate a bar in a shipping container, here’s your chance.
Marriott International in Bethesda is offering a budding entrepreneur the potential to win up to $30,000 in seed money if he or she can pitch a plan for creating and operating a bar inside a 20-foot by 8-foot shipping container.
The shipping container bar won’t be shipped anywhere. It occupies a permanent location near a lake on the grounds of the Gaithersburg Marriott Washingtonian Center.
The Bethesda-based hotel company announced its search for an entrepreneur to operate the bar earlier this week.
“Together with a panel of local mixologists, business experts and hotel operators, Marriott will determine which entrepreneur brings the most creativity, sustainability and business acumen to the table,” the hotel company wrote in its contest announcement. “After an initial span of operations, the concept will be evaluated for success based on popularity and return on investment.”
Business plans can be submitted to the company on its Canvas restaurant incubator website.
Marriott launched its Canvas restaurant incubator in 2014 as a way to attract ideas from budding food and beverage restaurateurs. With the incubator Marriott is encouraging entrepreneurs to submit restaurant and bar concepts to them, if the company likes a concept it will provide money and space to the entrepreneur, according to the company.
