Funeral services for Richard and Julianne Vilardo, the couple found slain Sunday at their Rockville home, are scheduled to take place today and tomorrow in Bethesda.

Two visitations are scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Robert A. Pumphrey Funeral Home on Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda. A service is scheduled at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda at 10 a.m. Friday.

The Vilardos were found dead by a relative at their Rockville home in the 13200 block of Ridge Drive just after noon Sunday. County police later said they were both killed by sharp force injuries to their upper bodies. Police officials said Monday they believe an intruder or intruders may have gained entry to the home through an unlocked window, which was found open.

On Wednesday, police asked neighbors in the Glen Hills neighborhood where the Vilardos lived to check their home video systems for suspicious activity. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered by Crime Solvers of Montgomery County for information that leads to the arrest of a suspect in the case.

Police said the Vilardos were last seen alive at a dinner with friends Saturday night in Charles Town, West Virginia.

Richard Vilardo, 65, and his wife Julianne, 67, met while working for the accounting firm Harris Kerr Forster and married in 1976, according to an obituary posted on the Pumphrey Funeral Home website.

Richard Vilardo then worked for Marriott International for a number of years before starting his own real estate investment and hotel management company, while Julianne worked at DeLeon & Stang, a certified public accounting firm in Gaithersburg, where she became a partner before retiring in 2007, according to the obituary.

Julianne Vilardo was a breast cancer survivor who volunteered with the Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda. A memorial fund in honor of the couple has been established at the Children's Inn. The couple is survived by two adult children, Andrew and Katherine, as well as two grandchildren.
