Washington ArtWorks hosts a Spring Open Studio Weekend. Resident artists open their studios to the public for shopping, demonstrations and networking. The free event includes food trucks, live music and raffles.
Veterans exhibit and reading – Friday, 7-9 p.m., Chevy Chase Cars, 7725 Wisconsin Ave.
Bethesda Urban Partnership and Chevy Chase Cars presents “Combat Paper Exhibit and Warrior Writers Reading,” an art exhibition and reading by veterans. The free event opening is at Chevy Chase Cars. Veterans cut up their uniforms, turned them into pulp and made them into sheets of paper to create works of art or record their experiences in writing. The exhibit will be on display through May 1.
The Roaring ’20s Speakeasy – Friday, 8 p.m., AMP by Strathmore, 11810 Grand Park Ave., North Bethesda

KID Museum 2.0 Idea Lab – Saturday, noon to 5 p.m., Davis Library, 6400 Democracy Blvd., Bethesda
KID Museum at Davis Library kicks off its toy design contest, Toy 2.0 Challenge, at its 2.0 Idea Lab on Saturday. Idea Lab activities run from noon to 5 p.m., with a presentation by HEXBUG makers at 2 p.m., and a robot team competition at 3 p.m. Entry forms will be available for the Toy 2.0 challenge and design specifications will be announced. The contest gives children ages 10 to 18 a chance to work with artists and inventors, learn to use 3D printers and work with tools to develop ideas for new toys. Strathmore presents “An Evening with Julie Andrews” Saturday at 9 p.m. at the Music Center. Andrews will share stories with Washington Post theater critic Peter Marks and screen clips from her films.
