Beware Of 'Chevy Chase Firefighters' Phone Scam

Someone is calling locals and falsely claiming to collect donations for a local fire department. A resident in Chevy Chase Village said she received a call Thursday night from someone claiming to be collecting money for the Chevy Chase Fire Department or "Chevy Chase Firefighters," according to a neighborhood listserv. Police in the Village and the Fire Department confirmed that it is a scam. The Fire Department doesn't solicit donations by phone. A sign board in front of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad also warns of phone scam attempts using the Rescue Squad's name. The Rescue Squad also doesn't solicit donations by phone.
