A unique art exhibit will take place Friday night in Bethesda, but first the art needs to be created.
This week, veterans are in the process of composing works at the USO Warrior & Family Center in Bethesda out of used military uniforms. The uniforms will be cut up into small pieces, beaten into a pulp, and then crafted into a piece of art by the service member.
The artwork composition and exhibit is part of the Combat Paper Project and is designed to give veterans a way to express their experience with war through art. The project was started by two veterans in California in 2007 and since then exhibitions of veterans’ work has been displayed in galleries across the country.
The exhibit is being coordinated with the help of the Bethesda Urban Partnership. It will open with a reading on Friday at 7 p.m. at Chevy Chase Cars (7756 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda.)
