Two anticipated restaurants to open this week – The esteemed Chinese Chef Peter Chang plans to open his first Maryland restaurant today at Rockville Town Square. Peter Chang (the name of the new restaurant) will take the place formerly occupied by Taste of Saigon on Maryland Avenue.
Urban Heights, the latest Bethesda restaurant by Chef Robert Wiedmaier’s RW Restaurant Group plans to open Thursday at the former Roof Bethesda location on Norfolk Avenue in Woodmont Triangle. The restaurant is the second opened in two weeks by the restaurant group—Villain & Saint, a new bar/ rock ‘n’ roll venue opened April 16 on Wisconsin Avenue in the former Markham’s location.
Thunderstorms loom and cooler temperatures predicted this week – Today a high near 78 is expected with a chance of evening showers and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service. The temperature should drop tonight to around 54 degrees. Tuesday it’ll be most sunny with a high near 67 and a low around 45 degrees. Starting Wednesday, temperatures are expected to cool down. The highs Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are currently predicted in the upper 50s with nighttime lows around 40 degrees—a mix of cloudy and sunny conditions are predicted for those weekdays.
Westbard Sector Plan update on Wednesday – Montgomery County planners will present the latest concepts they’ve come up with as part of their work updating the Westbard Sector Plan at a community meeting at Walt Whitman High School on Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Residents at the last Westbard meeting in November largely criticized the plan due to proposed increases in height limits and residential units as well as the perceived negative effect that would have on the area’s traffic. The developer Equity One is planning to redevelop the Westwood Shopping Center and surrounding buildings into a new retail center with apartment and condo buildings containing about 500 to 700 residential units.
MCPS to discuss budget with Montgomery County Council – Montgomery County Public Schools officials will have a chance to detail the schools budget to the county council’s Education Committee on Monday. MPCS is scheduled to discuss its financial report at 2 p.m. today. County Executive Ike Leggett recommended $84.7 million less than schools requested in the budget he proposed to the council. The school budget discussion will take place among more than a dozen other budget discussions with county departments scheduled before the council this week.
