Maria Shriver, Journalist/Activist
An Emmy-Award-winning journalist and six-time New York Times best-selling author, Shriver grew up in Potomac and is a graduate of Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda and a Georgetown University alumna. While acting as first lady of California, Shriver spearheaded The Women’s Conference encouraging women to be “architects of change” between 2003 and 2010. The NBC News special anchor is the only daughter of the late Sargent Shriver, the former head of the Peace Corps and the founder of the Special Olympics, and the late Eunice Kennedy Shriver. Shriver is also a national advocate for Alzheimer’s awareness, the disease her father succumbed to in 2011 after an eight-year battle.
