The largest private preschool system in the nation—The Goddard School—has submitted plans to the Montgomery County Planning Department to build a 14,400-square-foot preschool on Edson Lane in White Flint.

The proposed school would serve about 225 children ranging in age from six weeks to 6 years old and about 32 faculty members would work there. Goddard submitted updated plans this month for its new building. The Planning Board is scheduled to review the project April 30.

Planning staff recommended approving the preschool’s plans and planners wrote in their review of the project that it conforms to the 2010 White Flint Sector Plan.

“The proposed project directly fulfills one of the plan’s area-wide land use priorities of providing child day care,” planners wrote.

The proposed two-story building would be 32 feet high and 195 feet long. Goddard plans to construct a playground measuring about 3,000 square feet on the site as well as add landscaping. A traffic study concluded the preschool would generate about 120 vehicle trips per day in and out of the building.

The site is home to a single-family house, but it has been zoned for office space since 2007. The site is located between Woodglen Drive and Rockville Pike.
