Rain possible, but nice weather expected – It’s expected to be a nice spring week, according to the National Weather Service. Today a sunny high of 73 degrees is expected. Showers are predicted to begin late tonight and continue into Tuesday morning. A high of 63 degrees is predicted for Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday should be sunny with highs in the upper-50s and low-60s. Friday rounds out the work week with a high of 68 and a chance of showers, according to the weather service.
Two new restaurants opening – A Silver Spring seafood restaurant and a Bethesda rock ‘n’ roll venue are scheduled to open this week. All Set Restaurant & Bar, a New England concept located on Fenton Street in downtown Silver Spring, is scheduled to officially open Tuesday.
Villain & Saint—Robert Wiedmaier’s new live music venue and remake of Markham’s on Wisconsin Avenue—will host its first band Thursday night. The Silver Spring-based band Lloyd Dobler Effect will open the venue with a free show.
St. Elmo Apartments community meeting – The Lenkin Company is scheduled to provide the public with the latest update on its St. Elmo Apartments project this week. A meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. at the Bethesda Elementary School (7600 Arlington Rd.) In August, the developer detailed plans to construct a 16-story, 210-unit building next to the new Bainbridge Bethesda building between St. Elmo and Fairmont avenues in downtown Bethesda.
White Flint Downtown Advisory Committee to meet – The committee composed of White Flint developers, residents and business leaders is scheduled to meet at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. White Flint has been in the news lately with reports about an effort to begin attracting Marriott’s corporate headquarters to the region and Lerner Enterprises possibly getting closer to beginning the major redevelopment of White Flint Mall.
Public hearings on the budget – The Montgomery County Council will hold five public hearings on the proposed fiscal year 2016 operating budget this week. The hearings will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday, and 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday.
Council begins budget work – The County Council will begin its own work on County Executive Ike Leggett’s proposed 2016 operating budget this week. On Monday, council committees are scheduled to discuss the budget for health and human services, the fire department and the Housing Opportunities Commission.
