Corned Beef King Finds Potomac Home

The food truck plans to permanently locate at Copenhaver Swim Club starting this month

The Corned Beef King is setting up shop in Potomac.

Jon Rossler, the owner of the Corned Beef King food truck, said he has received a special exception from Montgomery County to sell food at the Copenhaver Swim Club on Falls Road year-round.

Rossler said he’s waiting to receive a site specific license from the county, which he expects soon, and plans to move the truck to the swim club permanently sometime in mid-April.

Rossler had previously operated at the location for three weeks last winter, but was forced by the county to leave after a neighbor complained. However, Rossler, who said business was great in Potomac, hired a lawyer who helped him negotiate an exception to bring the truck back to the pool.

As part of the deal, Rossler said he’d locate the truck in the back of the parking lot, off of Falls Road, to reduce the impact on the neighbors.

“They agreed to let us go back,” Rossler said. “I was shocked.”

He said the swim club is supportive of his business and the truck will serve as the pool’s concession stand.

In addition to selling corned beef and pastrami, Rossler is planning to add more items to the menu to appeal to the pool crowd like grilled cheese, hot dogs and macaroni and cheese. The truck will also serve bagels, and tuna and turkey sandwiches. Rossler said he is contemplating adding a fryer, so he can cook chicken fingers and French fries. The truck will be open at the pool from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

Rossler is planning to purchase a new “mobile kitchen” this week, which he says will be used to serve his traditional office park routes in Rockville and at special events while the truck stays at the Potomac pool.

The Corned Beef King truck previously was stationed at the Montgomery County Farm Women’s Cooperative Market on Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda, but Rossler said business decreased so much during the winter that he decided to leave. Corned Beef King also has a retail location at a gas station in Olney.
