Montgomery County expects to sweep up about 1,000 tons of debris from county streets that otherwise might have been washed away into local streams.

The county’s annual street sweeping program will begin next week and last into June.

County crews will sweep debris and abrasives left behind from winter snow on roughly 4,000 of the county’s 5,000 curb miles of roads. The Montgomery County Department of Transportation and Department of Environmental Protection partner on the project.
“Street sweeping not only improves the appearance of our neighborhoods, it also protects the environment by keeping salt and other debris out of our storm drains, our stormwater management facilities and our streams,” announced MCDOT Acting Director Al Roshdieh.
Signs will be posted in neighborhoods a few days before street sweeping begins. The county is asking that residents find alternative parking while their streets are cleaned.
