A smoke alarm alerted children sleeping in the basement of a Gaithersburg townhouse after a fire broke out Monday morning, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services spokesman Pete Piringer.
Piringer said the family was able to escape from the home after a fire started around 9 a.m. in the home’s kitchen. Piringer said the fire was caused by someone leaving food unattended while cooking. The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage to the two-story townhouse in the 1100 block of Knoll Mist Lane.
No one was injured in the incident.
