If you like to wait until after local streets are cleaned to wash all the remains of winter off your car—here’s your notice. Montgomery County plans to begin residential street sweeping April 6.
The effort will clear salt, sand and other debris from about 4,000 miles of county roads. In previous years street sweepers have removed about 1,000 tons of debris that would otherwise end up in drainage systems (or on your car.)
The county will post brightly colored signs in neighborhoods a few days before street sweeping begins. During that time, residents are encouraged to find alternative parking so the street sweeping will be more effective.
The county will provide daily updates on the street sweeping schedule online. According to that schedule, the process should be completed by mid-June. The Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Silver Spring area should be mostly cleared by the end of April.
