Bethesda Man Allegedly Sold Prescription Drugs Over The Internet — Titilayo Akintomide Akinyoyenu, known as Tommy Akin, was arrested by the FBI on Friday after he was indicted on federal charges for illegally selling $8.3 million in prescription drugs over the internet. A federal indictment says Akinyoyenu, 47, filled more than 58,000 prescriptions for customers who ordered drugs solely on the basis of an online medical questionnaire. Federal authorities said that’s illegal. Akinyoyenu allegedly shipped the drugs out of his D.C. pharmacy. He was arrested at his Bethesda home. [Department of Justice]
Nominee To PSC Stalled After Controversial Tweets — Michael Higgs, the chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Central Committee, was nominated by Gov. Larry Hogan to a spot on the state’s Public Service Commission. But a series of old and controversial tweets may have derailed his bid. A Senate committee didn’t go forward with the appointment. A Hogan spokesperson said Hogan asked the committee to hold off because the PSC is making a decision about the Pepco-Exelon merger. Higgs has since deleted his Twitter account. [Washington Post]
Bethesda Crescent Buildings For Sale — Brookfield Properties is getting close to selling off three of its Bethesda Crescent office buildings: 7475 Wisconsin Avenue, 7401 Wisconsin Avenue and 4600 East-West Highway. The company is selling off nearly $2 billion in office properties around the country. The three Bethesda Crescent buildings total more than 300,000 square feet of office space. [CoStar]
Dad-Daughter Duo Create Messaging App For Kids — A dad and his daughter in Bethesda created Marimba, a messaging app for kids younger than 13 that blocks profanity, has a time setting so use can be regulated and requires parental approval of who a user chats with. Andrew Scheibler, a software engineer, said he developed the app when his 9-year-old daughter Annelise asked about chatting online with her friends. It was approved for Apple’s App Store last year and is free to download. [The Gazette]
