School Board to Authorize Recommendation to Meet Budget Gap – The Montgomery County Board of Education Monday night is scheduled to authorize the submission of a letter to the County Council that lists the school system’s plans to align its proposed budget with the allocation recommended by the council. Schools requested a $2.253 billion budget for fiscal year 2016, but the council’s spending recommendation came in at about $122.8 million less. To make up the difference the school system is proposing to cut about 370 school-based jobs and 40 administrative positions as well as slightly reduce the retirement contribution for school employees from 5.73 percent to 5.01 percent.
