A Sunday night electrical fire in a Glen Echo home caused $600,000 in damage and displaced an adult resident and two dogs.
Firefighters responded to 6102 Bryn Mawr Avenue at about 10:20 p.m. Sunday, said MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer.
They encountered heavy smoke coming from the home’s roof. The two-alarm fire spread through the home’s walls and required more than 85 firefighters to put it out.
Piringer said the home’s resident smelled smoke, got out and called 911. Firefighters said a “catastrophic electrical event” caused about $400,000 in damage to the structure and $200,000 in damage to the contents inside.
Nearby MacArthur Boulevard was temporarily blocked off during the fire response.
