A Rockville daycare owner has been charged with first- and second-degree child abuse after a baby in her care was found not breathing by firefighters and had signs of child abuse, according to Montgomery County Police.
A police spokeswoman said the baby was treated at Children’s National Medical Center and later released to her parents.
The incident happened on January 5 and since then the owner of the daycare—Ana Valentin, 40—posted bond and is awaiting a preliminary hearing. Valentin ran My Angel and Me Daycare out of her residence at 5402 Parkvale Terrace in Rockville.
ABC7, which first reported the story, found that doctors are concerned about the ongoing health of 6-month-old girl, who is undergoing physical therapy and may have permanent side effects. The news station reported the girl suffered brain injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome.
