8K Fundraiser For Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad Set For May

The 2nd annual race to benefit the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad is set for May 3 and will lead runners through the heart of of the volunteer rescue squad’s service area.

All proceeds from the RES1CUE Run 8K will go to the Rescue Squad, the organization of volunteer emergency medical technicians and firefighters with its headquarters at 5020 Battery Lane.

The Rescue Squad doesn’t receive regular funding from Montgomery County or the state of Maryland. Instead, it raiess almost all of its $2 million annual operating budget from individual donors, foundations, businesses and some local, state and federal government grants.

The race will start at 8 a.m., head north along Old Georgetown Road, cut east along Beech Avenue, Linden Avenue and Pooks Hill Road, then head back south along the curb lane of Rockville Pike. Runners will turn onto Fairmont Avenue and Woodmont Avenue before heading back toward the finish line at the station on Battery Lane.

Registration is $35 until April 15 and $50 starting on April 16. Registration for kids will be $10 at any time and the event includes two kids’ ambulance chase fun runs. The Rescue Squad will host post-race festivities.

The event’s presenting sponsors are the Leonard A. and Linda K. Greenberg Charitable Foundation and Greenhill Capital.
