Week Ahead: Chance of Snow Tuesday and Friday

Cold start to spring – The National Weather Service predicts a brisk Monday, with a high of 46 today and a nighttime low of 31 degrees. There’s a 30 percent chance of snow Tuesday morning, but the temperature is expected to rise to a sunny 48 degrees by the afternoon. Snow is also possible Tuesday night with the precipitation expected to switch to rain before noon Wednesday. More showers are predicted for Thursday, which should be the warmest day of the week with a high expected near 70 degrees. A high of 53 is predicted for Friday and also a 30 percent chance of snow Friday night, when temperatures drop to the low 30s.

County Council committee to receive briefing on deadly January Metro incident – Members of the Montgomery County Council’s transportation committee are scheduled to receive a briefing Tuesday on the Jan. 12 Metrorail incident near L’Enfant Plaza that resulted in the death of a passenger and injured more than 80 people. The incident is believed to have been caused by a smoking arcing insulator, according to preliminary reports. The arcing incident involved smoke coming from the transit system’s electrified third rail that filled a tunnel near the L’Enfant station as well as a train stopped in the tunnel. Smoke-causing arcing incidents have also been reported by Metro in the tunnel that extends from Friendship Heights to the Medical Center station in Bethesda. The briefing is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. March 24.

Cancer Documentary Sneak Peek Thursday – Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club will host a preview event at 6 p.m. Thursday for the new documentary Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies. The free event will include a preview of the three-part documentary directed by award-winning filmmaker Barak Goodman and produced by Ken Burns. The documentary will air on PBS from March 30 to April 1. After the screening a panel will discuss the future of cancer care with oncologists and researchers. Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club is at 7719 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda.
