Gusto Italian Grill, an Italian fast-casual concept, plans to open a location in Silver Spring this summer.

The restaurant will be located in a 3,500-square-foot space at 8512 Fenton St., across from Whole Foods Market. It is expected to open in August.

The concept is similar to Chipotle, but rather than offering Mexican menu items, the eatery will offer Italian burritos, pasta bowls and salad bowls. Customers will be able to choose from chicken, steak, meatballs or beans that can be combined with vegetables, cheeses, pasta and sauces.

The business has yet to open a restaurant, but earlier this year it launched a website announcing its first location at the former Kraze Burger spot at 4733 Elm St. in Bethesda. That location is expected to open in mid-June, according to Gusto’s CEO Josh Grim.

Grim said in a phone interview Friday the company would like to open 30 or 40 locations in the Washington, D.C., area, but right now it is focused on opening the upcoming Montgomery County locations. He said the business plans to be based in Bethesda.

The interior of the restaurants will include a large Tavola or communal table and feature “textured gray and white walls, stained concrete floors, industrial metals, limestone tiles, beams and weathered woods,” according to the Gusto website.

Other food items planned for the menu include gelato pops, organic Italian sodas and breadsticks.
