The removal of 10 homes, new sidewalks and the closure of a road are all set to happen this spring as Suburban Hospital ramps up construction on the first phase of its campus expansion project.
The $225 million project will include a four-story, 235,000-square-foot clinical center on what’s now Lincoln Street and a new 1,125-space parking garage on the site of the hospital’s existing parking garage.
To accommodate parking for the existing hospital during construction of the new garage, Suburban will build an interim lot roughly where the new clinical center is planned.
The new garage is scheduled to be completed in 2017, at which point construction of the clinical center would begin.
Earlier this week, Suburban got permits to move forward with the demolition of the 10 single-family homes it bought and that are now vacant along Lincoln Street and Grant Street. Crews will clear trees, shrubs and other brush for the interim parking lot.
The closure of Lincoln Street between Old Georgetown Road and Grant Street is set for some time in late spring.
The hospital will hold a meeting on the construction process on Tuesday, April 21 for residents of the neighboring Huntington Terrace community. Suburban said more information on the meeting will be sent out closer to the date.
In the next two weeks, the hospital said pre-construction meetings will start taking place. Crews will also start installing trenches, fences and stakes around the site.
Work will also happen on the McKinley Street side of the campus to allow for construction access and crews will begin installing new sidewalks along Grant Street.
