Benny’s Bar and Grill Hires New Chef

Restaurant owner says new menu will be more sophisticated

After being open for nearly two years in Potomac, Benny’s Bar and Grill owner Benny Fischer is bringing in a new chef and making changes at the Tuckerman Lane eatery.

Last month, Fischer hired former White House chef Robert Alexander who he says is planning a smaller, more refined menu for the restaurant. Fischer said Alexander most recently handled catering events for diplomats at the White House and previously served as a chef there during the administrations of presidents Bill Clinton and George H. W. Bush.

Fischer said the new menu should be completed in a couple of weeks and that “there’ll be a huge difference in presentation and quality.” He said the menu will be reduced so it’s less like a diner menu and more like that of a fine dining restaurant.

He also said the restaurant will be adding a new outdoor dining area with 40 seats.

Fischer says the restaurant is already rolling out new menu items as specials to see how diners respond. The restaurant may soon announce other news—Fischer says he’s working with a producer on a possible reality TV show.
