Budget Deal Would Restore School Funding — The $40.7 billion state budget approved Friday by the House Appropriations Committee would restore the Geographical Cost of Education Index funding that Gov. Larry Hogan proposed to cut by 50 percent. The loss would’ve meant at least a $17 million funding cut for MCPS. The budget now goes to the House floor and State Senate. [Baltimore Sun]
Total Wine Won’t Get Local Liquor License This Year — A bill that would’ve allowed Potomac-based Total Wine & More to have two liquor licenses in Maryland instead of one was voted down by a State Senate committee. The Maryland State Licensed Beverage Association, which represents small liquor store owners around the state, opposed the measure. It’s unclear if Total Wine would’ve been able to open a store in Montgomery County anyway, due to the county’s unique control model for alcohol sales. [Bethesda Magazine]
