Grease build-up in the duct work at Chicken on the Run caused a fire that dealt more than $75,000 in damage to the St. Elmo Avenue restaurant Saturday morning, according to Montgomery Fire and Rescue Services spokesman Pete Piringer.

Firefighters responded to the restaurant around 9:45 a.m. Saturday and found a fire in the building’s duct work. Firefighters were on the scene for about two hours Saturday morning, which led to a brief closure of St. Elmo Avenue between Old Georgetown Road and Norfolk Avenue, according to Piringer.

The restaurant, which specializes in charcoal roasted Peruvian chicken, announced on its Facebook page Saturday night that it will be closed temporarily while repairs take place. The restaurant at 4933 St. Elmo Avenue said repairs should take about two weeks.
