A Wesleyan University college student from Rockville turned himself into police Friday in connection with a drug overdose case that left 11 individuals hospitalized after toxic overdoses of the party drug known as Molly, according to the New Haven Register.
The Connecticut paper reported that Abhimanyu Janamanchi, 21, was one of the students who was critically injured in the February incident. Janamanchi had to be resuscitated and hospitalized after the party on Feb. 22, according to the Register.
He was charged with two counts each of possession of a hallucinogenic controlled substance and sale of a hallucinogenic controlled substance as well as possession and sale of a non-narcotic controlled-substance. Molly is a stimulant drug that can elicit euphoric effects that’s also known as MDMA or ecstacy, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
All 11 individuals hospitalized after reportedly taking the drug have since been treated and released, according to the report.
The paper reported that Janamanchi appeared in court Friday and was later released on $50,000 bond.
Janamanchi is one of two Montgomery County students who are students at the school that were charged in the incident and among five who now face charges in the case. All five students have been suspended from the university.
Zachary Kramer, 21, of Bethesda was also charged for his alleged involvement. He was charged with possession of a regulated substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia in the case.
