UPDATED: Snow Closes MCPS, Montgomery County Government Thursday

Updated at 12:35 P.m. — Montgomery County Public Schools and county government buildings are closed on Thursday due to the snow that’s expected to continue into Thursday afternoon.

The school system made the announcement at 4:25 a.m.:

Montgomery County Public Schools and all administrative offices are closed today due to emergency weather conditions. All school and community activities in school buildings are canceled.

The Montgomery County government is also closed Thursday, meaning county buildings are closed and trash and recycling pick-ups moved back one day. Parking in county garages and lots is free. Here’s the official county announcement:

Montgomery County Government is closed today, Thursday, March 5. Essential personnel must report at their regularly scheduled times. County facilities, other than Public Safety facilities, are closed.
County provided recycling and trash collections for Thursday residents have been postponed untilFriday March 6 due to the approaching snow storm. Friday residents will be serviced on Saturday March 7th.
For more information about closings and snow-removal operations, visit the county’s snow information website at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/snow.  Residents can also call 311 or 240-777-0311. The MC311 call center will remain open all night and throughout the day Thursday.

The county went to a Snow Emergency Plan at 6 a.m. No cars are permitted to be parked on Snow Emergency Routes. Federal offices in the D.C. area are closed Thursday.
Other closures and cancellations include: Glen Echo Park, the Planning Department and today’s scheduled Planning Board meeting, Montgomery County Recreation, the Town of Chevy Chase, Chevy Chase Village and Montgomery County Public Libraries, where all materials due today will now be due tomorrow.
Bethesda Circulator service has been suspended for Thursday.
