Council Might Cap Fees Taxi Drives Must Pay Their Companies — A Council Committee last week recommended capping leasing and credit card processing fees county taxi drivers must pay their cab companies. Drivers and Council members agreed the fees are hurting drivers’ ability to make money. Cab company representatives blamed Uber and Lyft for taking business away from traditional taxi cabs. Walter Johnson Debate Team Wins County Championship — The debate team from Walter Johnson High School won the Montgomery County Debate Championships this week for the second year in a row. The team’s four captains ranked as the top four individual debaters out of 300 participants from 22 high schools.
White Flint Downtown Meeting Tuesday — The next meeting of the White Flint Downtown Advisory Committee is set for Tuesday at 8 a.m. in the lounge of the PerSei apartment building at Pike & Rose (900 PerSei Place). Meeting topics will include a recent report on forming business improvement districts and a visit from Councilmember Roger Berliner. The meeting is open to the public.
