The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning in Montgomery County and the surrounding region ahead of a possibly significant snow storm.

The warning is in effect from 10 p.m. Wednesday evening until Thursday night. Anywhere from 5 to 10 inches of snow could fall in the county.

It may be hard to believe the area is about to get hit with a snow storm, considering Wednesday’s balmy temperatures. The weather service expects temperatures to rise as high as 45 degrees this afternoon, before dropping down below freezing tonight, when the daytime rain is expected to switch over to snow.

The southern part of the county, including Bethesda, is currently expected to see between 6 to 8 inches, as is Washington, D.C., while the northern portion of the county could see up to 10 inches, according to the latest NWS snow map.

And, just in case you haven’t quite had enough of this frigid weather, more cold temperatures are on the way. The weather service predicts highs of 31 and 27 on Thursday and Friday before reaching the 40s over the weekend.

The good news: Next week temperatures are expected to reach into the 50s Monday and Tuesday.
