Carluccio’s—a chain of Italian restaurants and markets bearing the name of its famous British founder, which are located in the United Kingdom and Middle East—will open a new location at Pike & Rose in North Bethesda.
The Washington Business Journal reported the location will be the chain’s second in the U.S. and among more than 80 locations across the world. The company is currently building another location in Alexandria, Virginia, which will be its first in the country.
Federal Realty, the developer of Pike & Rose, lists the restaurant in a 4,600-square-foot space on its website.
Antonio Carluccio, whom the restaurant is named after, was born in Italy and then moved to the U.K. when he was 8. He started appearing in cooking shows on the BBC in the 1980s and has since written 13 cooking books. He opened his first restaurant in 1991 and his first food shop and market in 1999. Carluccio and his business partners rapidly expanded the business before selling to the Dubai-based Landmark Group in 2010.
The restaurants are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the market typically sells a variety of Italian items, many of which are made in-house, such as focaccia bread.
There’s no word yet on when the new restaurant is scheduled to open.
