A wintry mix is expected to strike the region this afternoon and possibly cause a rough evening commute.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory in effect from noon to 10 p.m. today for Montgomery County. The weather service says up to a half inch of snow and sleet is expected today and that roads will “likely” be covered in snow and ice that will make traveling dangerous.
The bulk of the storm is expected to hit the region between 2 and 4 p.m., according to the weather service, and precipitation should stop around 7 p.m.
Temperatures are expected to hover between 30 and 34 degrees this afternoon, which means we could see rain, freezing rain or snow, according to the Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang.
Despite the bleak forecast, Montgomery County Public Schools will end at their regularly scheduled times today.
MCPS will close at the regular time and will NOT close early. A decision about after school/evening activities will be made later.

However, the weather service predicts a nearly spring-like day tomorrow when temperatures reach into the low-50s, with rain.
