UPDATE – 4:30 p.m. – A construction crew struck and broke a two-inch “high pressure” gas line in the 4800 block of Montgomery Lane on Tuesday afternoon leading to partial evacuations of nearby buildings.
Fire department spokesman Pete Piringer said around 4 p.m. the leak had been controlled and firefighters were leaving the scene.
Piringer reported Woodmont Avenue at Montgomery Lane and other local streets near the scene were closed while firefighters worked. No injuries were reported due to the incident.
Some of the estimated 30 evacuees were being housed at the nearby Bethesda Library on Arlington Road before the leak was controlled, according to Piringer.
The construction site in question is at 4825 Montgomery Lane where a developer is building a 4-unit luxury residential condo building.
