They pedaled for hours on Sunday, hoping to get closer to a cure for rare cancers.
About 800 people participated at Equinox Bethesda health club in the annual Cycle for Survival, a national event to raise money to combat rare forms of cancer, including thyroid, brain, ovarian, pancreatic and pediatric cancers.
Equinox instructors led the participants in rides at the all-day event. Similar events have included more than 20,000 riders in 13 cities across the country and raised $20 million.
The events raise funds for research and clinical trials at Memorial Slan Kettering Cancer Center. The Bethesda event is in its fourth straight year.
Since 2007, Cycle for Survival says it has raised over $71 million.
