Former Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Joshua P. Starr has launched a new consulting business.
Maryland Department of Assessments & Taxation records show Starr registered the limited liability company Education Solutions LLC on Feb. 17, the day after Starr’s resignation took effect.
Starr’s consulting business was first reported by The Washington Post.
MCPS spokesman Dana Tofig confirmed the consulting business to the Post. Starr set up the company “so he could do some consulting work if it came available,” Tofig told the Post in an email.
Starr’s LinkedIn profile lists him as the president of Education Solutions. State records show him as the registered agent and list his Bethesda address as the company’s address.
School officials announced Starr’s resignation earlier this month in the midst of his contract renewal discussions. He remains on the district’s payroll. Under the terms of his separation agreement, Starr will receive his $100,000 salary through June 30 and receive health insurance through the end of 2015. He is also eligible to receive $46,000 in unused sick, vacation and personal time.
In an interview with National Public Radio’s Ideastream published earlier this month, Starr said he was going to take time to contemplate his next step. “What is it I want to do for the rest of my career? Where can I make the most impact? What are the greatest needs out there?” Starr said.
Starr had sought to extend his contract by another four years, but reportedly lacked support from a majority of the school board.
