Updated at 7:40 a.m.— Metro says intermittent arcing insulators near the platform at the Medical Center Metro station on Thursday were caused by water dripping onto the tracks.
Firefighters were called to the station just after 7 a.m.:
U/D Med Cntr Metro OPEN – FFs investigating some (minor) issues w/ several insulators (intermittent arcing) near Platform, Trains operating- Pete Piringer (@mcfrsPIO) February 26, 2015
Metro said firefighters responded as a precaution because of a report of minor sparks. No fire or smoke was found.
All operations at the station continued as normal and a Metro maintenance team is on the scene. Metro said the dripping water is a common problem at the station.
Metro plans to shut down the station for 14 weekends next year to fix the leak problems in the Red Line tunnel between the Grosvenor-Strathmore and Bethesda stations.
