The two Glen Echo Fire Department volunteers who were injured in a Beltway collision on Feb. 15 have been released from the hospital.
Thomas Schryver, 26, and Sydney Marshall, 19, were struck and seriously injured by a truck while treating victims of a different accident on the side of the Beltway just after midnight on Feb. 15. Prior to the accident a snow squall hit the region leaving about an inch of snow that created treacherous conditions on local roads.
Schryver is recuperating at his parents’ home while Marshall has been moved to a rehabilitation facility, according to a Facebook post by John Witherspoon, Jr., president of the Glen Echo Fire Department.
Schryver and Marshall were with two other EMTS—Meghan Quinn and Wyatt Smith—treating individuals in a Toyota Camry who had slid onto the shoulder of the Beltway near River Road. That’s when a Clarksburg man reportedly lost control of his 2005 Ford F-150 and struck the Camry as well as Schryver and Marshall, according to state police.
Witherspoon said in the Facebook post that police are continuing to investigate the accident and the investigation is expected to take about a month to complete.
Quinn and Smith were not hit by the truck, but took some time off after the accident, according to Witherspoon. Smith has since returned to work, while Quinn is hoping to do so in the near future, Witherspoon said.
