Bethesda Area Under Winter Storm Warning

Updated at 9:45 p.m. — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Montgomery County and much of the D.C. area, with 3-6 inches of snow expected throughout Saturday.

The NWS says the snow should start between 10 a.m. and noon, with the heaviest snow this afternoon and sleet and freezing rain tonight:

* PRECIPITATION TYPE…A MIX OF SNOW…SLEET…AND FREEZING RAIN TODAY THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY MORNING.
* ACCUMULATIONS…3 TO 6 INCHES OF SNOW AND SLEET. ICE ACCUMULATIONS OF A TRACE TO A FEW HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH.
* TIMING…SNOW STARTING BETWEEN 10 AM AND NOON. THE HEAVIEST SNOW IS EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON. SNOW WILL CHANGE TO SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN TOWARD EVENING. PRECIPITATION WILL CHANGE TO RAIN WITH AREAS OF FREEZING RAIN LATE TONIGHT.
* TEMPERATURES…HIGHS TODAY IN THE UPPER 20S. TEMPERATURES SLOWLY RISING INTO THE MIDDLE 30S TONIGHT.
* WINDS…WINDS SOUTH 10 TO 20 MPH THROUGH THIS EVENING…
BECOMING LIGHT AND VARIABLE OVERNIGHT.
* IMPACTS…SNOW AND ICE WILL CAUSE HAZARDOUS TRAVELING CONDITIONS THROUGH TONIGHT AND POSSIBLY INTO SUNDAY MORNING.

All Montgomery County Recreation facilities and Montgomery County Public Libraries will be closed Saturday and all programs are canceled.
All school and community use activities on Montgomery County Public Schools buildings will continue until 2 p.m. All school and community use activities after 2 p.m. Saturday are canceled.
Imagination Stage has canceled all performances and activities after noon.
