Montgomery County Public Schools are closed today, and for the first time this year there's plenty of snow to go sledding. The light fluffy stuff fell overnight, so here are a few local hills to go sledding: (If we forgot your favorite, let us know in the comments)
Silver Spring
The hill behind Takoma Park Middle School: Lauded by some as the best sledding the area, the hill at Takoma Park Middle offers a rush for kids of all ages and there is plenty of parking–not to mention the sledding hot-spot can also be accessed by the Takoma Metro stop.
7611 Piney Branch Rd, Silver Spring
Pine Crest Elementary School: Adjacent to the school’s tennis courts, Pine Crest’s field is a good sledding hill for the kids–and easy parking for mom and dad in the school’s lot.
201 Woodmoor Drive, Silver Spring
Rockville
Monument Park: Located on the corner of Monument Street and Maryland Ave., the hill slopes safely away from the street, but be sure to mind the baseball cages that line the field at the bottom.
550 Maryland Avenue, Rockville
Civic Center Park: Near Rockville High School, Civic Center Park has a small sizable hill where locals sled.
603 Edmonston Dr, Rockville
Kensington
Capitol View-Homewood Local Park: While the park may lack the height of some of the other hills, this MoCo park has plenty of open space for snowball fights, and snowmen too!
2929 Edgewood Rd, Kensington
Bethesda
Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart: The hill on the private school’s campus has been attracting families for years. UPDATE: We've been informed that this hill is now a turf field, so it's probably best to skip this one, sorry folks.
