Baltimore Symphony Orchestra: Off the Cuff, The Bach Family – Friday, 8:15 p.m. – Strathmore

Conductor Nicholas McGeagan makes a guest appearance with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in their “Off the Cuff” series. This concert will highlight the Bach Family and the musical genius that ran in the family which vaulted them to the forefront of the Baroque era. Tickets are available here.

The Noise Presents Periphery with Nothing More, Wovenwar, and more – Friday, 7 p.m. – Fillmore Silver Spring

The progressive rock concert at the Fillmore will feature the DC based band, Periphery. Appearances will also be made by Nothing More, Woven War and Thank You Scientist. Tickets are available here.

The Duke Ellington Orchestra Special Valentine's Day Performance – Saturday, 8 p.m. – Bethesda Blues and Jazz Club

The Duke Ellington Orchestra will make a special Valentine’s Day appearance and pay tribute to a man who is considered the most influential musician in Jazz, if not all of American music. A special Valentine’s Day menu will be available, including a champagne toast and a rose for the ladies. Tickets are available here.

Other Desert Cities – Friday, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, 2 p.m. – The Highwood Theatre

Don’t miss the last two performances of “Other Desert Cities,” a play about a family that is reuniting at Christmas after six years. Old stories are told, new memories are made and it is proven that time does not heal all wounds. “Comedic and emotional, Other Desert Cities brings to life the story of a dysfunctional family – one that could easily pass for our own,” the program notes state. “Wiley and the Hairy Man” is a children’s play about a boy named Wiley and a man who lives in a swamp. After neglecting to listen to his mother, Wiley is forced to confront the swamp man when he wanders into the swamp alone. This show is best for children ages 6 through 12.
