A late-night audio-visual arts festival drew more than 3,000 to an empty office building in the White Flint/Pike District.
The free and first-ever Pike & Rose Audio Visual Arts Festival (or PRAVA) included a Dutch “sound, installation and performance artist” who turned the office building’s sixth floor into a choreographed roller arena, plus other light, sound and musical artists brought in by a New York-based production company.
It’s part of developer Federal Realty’s push to make Pike & Rose the cultural anchor of the new-look White Flint.
According to organizers, guests started lining up at 5:45 p.m. Saturday for the event.
“Some guests still arrived after 12 midnight, solidifying Pike & Rose as an art, entertainment and culture destination,” wrote a publicist working to promote the event.
PRAVA’s success has Federal Realty looking for other festival opportunities in the neighborhood.
In April, the Greater Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce will host a major networking and exhibition event on one of the office building’s empty floors.
Bank of America Merrill Lynch is set to take ov er40,000 square feet of the 80,000-square-foot Class A office building, which is part of Phase 1 of the project on the former site of the Mid-Pike Plaza Shopping Center.
