A local real estate firm has launched a campaign to donate 1,000 beds to the Silver Spring-based nonprofit A Wider Circle to help needy families in the Washington, D.C., area.

Hans Wydler and Steve Wydler of the Wydler Brothers Team at Long & Foster will donate one bed to A Wider Circle each time they or an agent on their team sells a house. The campaign was created after the brothers learned from Mark Bergel, founder and executive director of A Wider Circle, that one of the most common requests the nonprofit receives is for beds.

A Wider Circle works to end poverty by providing job training and items such as beds, dressers, couches, tables and chairs to needy individuals. Last year the organization served more than 20,000 children and adults in the D.C. area, according to the nonprofit.

“Our team is thrilled about partnering with A Wider Circle and hope to not only meet but exceed the 1,000 Bed Challenge,” Steve Wydler said in a statement. “We love the idea that helping people buy and sell homes will result in helping local families in need.”
