‘Rapping Rabbi’ and ‘Techno-Menorah’ At Bethesda Row’s Hannukah Celebration

December 15, 2014 9:15 a.m.

This year’s Bethesda Row Hannukah celebration will include a “giant techno-Menorah” and a Hasidic rapper named “Mor-To-Life” known as the “rapping rabbi.”

The annual menorah lighting, organized by the Chabad Center of Bethesda, finds a new twist each year.

In 2012, the 18-foot wide, 10-foot tall menorah was made of balloons. In the past, the menorahs have been made of legos, ice, jelly beans and toys.

This year’s event, set for Sunday at 5:30 p.m. on Bethesda Lane, will feature the techno-Menorah adorned with thousands of colored LED lights that flash and pulsate to music. The rapping rabbi will perform and, as usual, there will be latkes, jelly donuts and chocolate Hannukah gelt.

Each child in attendance will get a glow-in-the-dark gift. The eight-day Jewish holiday of Hannukah starts at sundown Tuesday.
