Update: Woman Dies after Three Vehicle Collision in Bethesda

A county-owned truck was involved, according to police

An 88-year-old New Jersey Woman died after suffering serious injuries in a Saturday morning three car collision in Bethesda.

Police identified the woman as Betty Nelson, of Cherry Hill, N.J.

Police said the collision happened on Democracy Boulevard at the ramp to southbound I-270 around 11:30 a.m., near Westfield Montgomery Mall. The collision involved a 2004 Toyota Camry, a 2012 Ford F-250 owned by Montgomery County government and a 2008 Mercedes.

Nelson was a passenger in the Camry, according to police, the other persons involved in the incident suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are examining the traffic light cycle at the scene.
